Jacket "PALMETTO"

A classic women's knitted jacket has diamond-shaped patterns on the sides, which visually make the waist thinner. A braid of small rhombuses runs along the edge of the shelves. 

The description of knitting the jacket is translated from the magazine “Sarah Hatton Designer Collection”.

Size:

The jacket can be knitted in 8 sizes: 8 (10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22), which corresponds to a circumference length of 81 (86, 91, 97, 102, 107, 112, 117) cm.

Chest circumference of the finished product – 86 (89, 94, 99, 106, 112, 117, 124) cm;

Length – 54.5 (54.5, 54.5, 57, 57, 58.5, 58.5, 61) cm;

Sleeve length – 44.5 (44.5, 45.75, 45.75, 47, 47, 47, 47) cm.

Materials:

Rowan Panama yarn (55% viscose, 33% cotton, 12% linen; 135 m / 50 g) – 400 (400, 450, 450, 500, 500, 550, 600) grams, 6 buttons with a diameter of 17 mm.

Tools:

Knitting needles No. 2.75 and No. 3.25, additional knitting needle for harnesses.

Knitting density:

27 loops and 36 rows of stockinette stitch, made with needles No. 3.25, are 10 cm.

Back (Part 1):

Using 2.75 needles, cast on 118 (122, 130, 138, 146, 154, 162, 170) stitches.

1st row (front): 2 front loops, *2 purl loops, 2 front loops; repeat from * to the end of the row.

2nd row: *2 purl loops, 2 front loops; repeat from * to last 2 stitches, purl 2 stitches.

These two rows make up a 2x2 rib repeat.

Tie 3 cm with an elastic band, finish with the front row.

Next row: knit with an elastic band, while evenly decreasing 2 (0, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2) loops in the row. There are 116 (122, 128, 136, 144, 152, 160, 168) stitches on the needles.

Change knitting needles to number 3.25.

Starting with the front row, knit 4 (4, 4, 4, 6, 6, 6, 6) rows of stockinette stitch, ending with a purl row.

Next knit as follows:

1st row (front): 1 purl loop, 2 knit loops, 1 yarn over, 2 knit loops together with a slant to the left, knit loops to the last 5 loops, knit 2 knit loops together with a slant to the right, 1 yarn over, 2 knit stitches, 1 purl loop.

Next row: 1 purl loop, purl 2 loops together, purl loops to the last 3 loops of the row, purl 2 loops together behind the back walls, purl 1 loop.

These two rows are decreasing rows to form the armhole. Continue knitting, decreasing 1 stitch from each edge in the next 3 (5, 7, 7, 9, 11, 11, 11) rows, then in every second row a total of 3 (2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 3, 3) times.

 There are 90 (92, 94, 100, 102, 106, 112, 118) stitches on the needles.

Continue knitting without decreasing until the armhole height reaches 20 (20, 21, 21, 22, 22, 23, 23) cm, finishing with a purl row.

Attach the thread to the front side of the remaining loops, bind off 40 (40, 40, 40, 44, 44, 44, 44) loops, knit stitches until Knit the second side as the first, only in a mirror image.

Continue knitting without decreasing until the height of the armhole reaches the height of the back armhole to the shoulder bevel. Finish with a purl row.

Forming a shoulder bevel:

Using 2.75 needles, cast on 54 (54, 58, 58, 62, 62, 62, 62) stitches. Knit 2.5 cm with a 2x2 elastic band, as on the back, finishing with the front row.

 Next row: knit with an elastic band, while evenly decreasing 0 (0, 0, 0, 2, 2, 0, 0) loops in the row, on the knitting needles 54 (54, 58, 58, 62, 62, 62, 62) loops.

Change knitting needles to number 3.25.

Starting from the front row, knit in stockinette stitch, adding 1 stitch from both edges in every 5th row a total of 7 (3, 10, 7, 12, 15, 15, 3) times, then once in every 8th row. m (6th, 8th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 6th, 4th) row, then every 10th (8th, 10th, 8th , 8th, 8th, 8th, 6th) row until there are 86 (92, 92, 98, 104, 106, 108, 114) stitches on the needles.

Work 5 more rows of ribbing, casting on 2 stitches over the closed stitches in the previous row (buttonhole holes). Close all loops.

Sew the sleeves into the armholes. Sew side seams and sleeve seams. Sew buttons.

Lightly steam the jacket according to the instructions for the yarn you are using.
