Structured cardigan

This practical cardigan, knitted in two threads from different types of yarn, seems quite traditional at first glance, but the trendy color, interesting structural pattern, deep V-neck and wide rib trims give it a fashionable look.

Dimensions: 38/40 (42/44) 46/48

 You will need:

yarn 1 (100% wool; 203 m/50 g) – 300 (350) 400 g green;

yarn 2 (54% alpaca wool, 24% polyamide, 22% sheep wool; 199 m/25 g) – 150 (175) 200 g green;

knitting needles No. 4 and 4.5;

 5 green buttons with a diameter of 16 mm.

Attention: knit only with double thread (= 1 thread of each type of yarn).

Pattern 1: elastic band (odd number of loops).

Purl rows: edge, alternately 1 knit, 1 purl crossed, finish with 1 knit, edge.

Front rows: edge, alternately 1 purl, 1 knit crossed, finish with 1 purl, edge.

Pattern 2: structural pattern (the number of loops is a multiple of 3 + 2 + 2 edge loops).

Front rows: edge, “Knit the 2nd stitch behind the 1st stitch, then knit the 1st stitch, purl 1, repeat constantly, knit the 2nd stitch behind the 1st stitch, then knit the 1st stitch, edge stitch.

 Purl rows: edge, * 2nd p. purl behind 1st p., then 1st p. purl, 1st knit, from “repeat constantly, 2nd p. purl behind 1st p. , then knit the 1st stitch purlwise, edgewise.

Pattern 3: garter stitch = knit and purl rows – knit stitches.

Knotted edge: In the front and back rows, knit the edges with the front ones.

Emphasized decreases:

 from the right edge, knotted edge, 3 p. pattern 3, 2 p. knit together purl.

From the left edge = knit according to the pattern until the last 6 stitches, then knit 2 stitches together purlwise, 3 stitches with pattern 3, knotted edge.

Knitting density: pattern 2 with double thread – 20 p. x 20 r. = 10 x 10 cm.

Back: with a double thread (= 1 thread of each type of yarn) on knitting needles No. 4, cast on 65 (73) 81 sts and for the bottom bar, knit 9 cm with pattern 1, while starting with 1 purl row and in the last purl row evenly add 35 (36 ) 37 p. = 100 (109) 118 p.

 Continue working on knitting needles No. 4.5 using pattern 2.

 After 26 cm = 52 r. from the bottom bar close on both sides for armholes 1 x 3 p. and in every 2nd p. close 1 x 2 p. and 1 x 1 p., from ” perform 3 times = 76 (85) 94 p.

After 45 cm = 90 rub. (47 cm = 94 rub.) 49 cm = 98 rub. from the bottom bar, close on both sides for shoulder bevels 1 x 7 (8) 10 p. and in every 2nd p. close off 2 x 6 (8) 9 p.

Simultaneously with the beginning of knitting the shoulder bevels, close the middle 38 (37) 38 stitches for the neckline and finish both sides separately.

Left shelf: with double thread (= 1 thread of each type of yarn) on knitting needles No. 4, cast on 38 (42) 46 sts and in 1-st. (= purl row) distribute the loops as follows: knotted edge, 3 stitches of pattern 3, 33 (37) 41 stitches of pattern 1, edge stitch.

After 9 cm or in the last row of the bottom bar on the loops of pattern 1, evenly add 16 (18) 17 sts = 54 (60) 63 sts.

 Continue working on needles No. 4.5 and on the loops of pattern 1, knit with pattern 2, while after the edge, start with 1 purl and before the loops of the front strap, finish with 1 purl.

 After 26 cm = 52 r. from the bottom bar close along the right edge for the armhole 1 x 3 p. and in every 2nd p. ” close 1 x 2 p. and 1 x 1 p., from * perform 3 times = 42 (48) 51 p.

For bevel of the neck after 27 cm = 54 r. (29 cm = 58 rub.) 31 cm = 62 rub. from the bottom bar, it is emphasized to subtract 1 x 1 p. along the left edge and in every 2nd p. 18 (19) 18 x 1 p.

 After 45 cm = 90 rub. (47 cm = 94 rub.) 49 cm = 98 rub. from the bottom bar, close along the right edge for the shoulder bevel 1 x 7 (8) 10 p. and in every 2nd p. 2 x 6 (8) 9 p. = 4 p.

 After 47 cm = 94 r. (49 cm = 98 rub.) 51 cm = 102 rub. from the bottom bar, knit another 9.5 cm on the remaining 4 sts, while in the 1st p. add 1 edge along the inner edge = 5 p. Set the loops aside.

Right shelf: knit in the same way as the left front, but in a mirror image, and the 1st hole for the button (= knit the 2nd and 3rd stitches together and make 1 yarn over) in 8 (12) 8 rows. from the starting row.

 Make the next 4 holes for buttons in every 16 (16) 18th r. similarly.

Sleeves: With a double thread (= 1 thread of each type of yarn) on knitting needles No. 4, cast on 43 (45) 47 stitches for each sleeve and knit 12 cm for the placket with pattern 1, while starting with 1 purl row and evenly adding 23 in the last row (24) 25 p. = 66 (69) 72 p.

Continue working on knitting needles No. 4.5 with pattern 2, and after the edge, start with 1 purl and finish in a mirror image.

For bevels, add 11 (9) 7 rows on both sides. from the bar 1 x 1 p., then in every 10th p. 3 x 1 p. and in every 8th p. 2 x 1 p. (in every 8th row 3 x 1 p. and in every 6th row 5 x 1 p.) in every 6th row. 10 x 1 p. sog. pattern = 78 (87) 94 p.

After 32 cm = 64 r. (34 cm = 68 rub.) 36 cm = 72 rub. close from the bar on both sides to roll 1 x 3 p. and in every 2nd p. close 1 x 2 p., 13 x 1 p., 1 x 2 p. and 1 x 3 p.

The remaining 32 (41) 48 p. close after 49 cm = 98 r. (51 cm = 102 rub.) 53 cm = 106 rub. from the bar.

Assembly: sew shoulder seams.

Connect the loops of the strap with a knitted seam and sew it into the neck of the back.

Sew in the sleeves.

Sew side seams and sleeve seams.

Sew buttons.
